RIMA Strategy

A VIX-adaptive, multi-broker options income strategy on Nifty weekly options. Developed, backtested, deployed and operated in-house.

Every week RIMA sells a call and a put close to spot and buys further-out hedges on both sides. The maximum loss is fixed the moment the trade is placed, so there is never a naked, open-ended position.

Strike distance and hedge width scale with India VIX. In normal volatility the strikes are sized to VIX and days to expiry. When volatility is elevated the hedges widen and the position shrinks. When it is high, entry is deferred.

Four checks run continuously through every session: a structural stop based on the index level rather than option premium, a strategy-level profit lock, an independent profit lock on each leg, and a mid-week re-strike when VIX shifts materially.

  1. WedEntryPosition opened once VIX and spot conditions are evaluated
  2. Wed – TueMonitoringStop and profit-lock checks every few seconds
  3. Mid-weekRe-strikeAutomatic adjustment if VIX shifts materially
  4. TueExpiry exitFull position closed by the defined exit time

The engine places, adjusts and closes every leg without manual order entry, through Zerodha Kite Connect and IIFL Capital Markets APIs, so no single broker's uptime or rate limits can stall it. Position state is checkpointed to disk, every order and decision is logged with a timestamp, and a single control closes every open leg on demand. The engine is built and operated by Quantelion.

I explain the rules, the reasoning and the week's trades on my YouTube channel QUANTELION (@quantelion9): 140 videos covering multi-month backtests, expiry-day trading, Nifty data analysis and post-market reviews. Daily setups go out on Telegram at t.me/niftysetuptrading.

Disclaimer

The return range is what RIMA has achieved in my own live trading and is the target going forward. It is not a guarantee. Trading in derivatives involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors. The hedged structure defines the maximum loss per position but does not eliminate the risk of loss. Past performance, actual or simulated, is not indicative of future results. Strategy parameters are subject to change on ongoing review. Nothing on this page is investment advice or an offer to buy or sell any instrument. Consult your own financial adviser before investing.

Second strategy

POTHI Strategy

Intraday options buying

POTHI Strategy

A systematic Nifty intraday options buying strategy. Long options only, so the risk on any trade is limited to the small premium paid: no short options, no unlimited-loss positions, no margin calls.

POTHI began in 2022 as a trader’s discretionary rulebook written from live experience. In 2026 every rule was translated into software and tested against 2.5 years of Nifty index and real option-premium data, 14.2 million price records. Thirteen versions later the rules that survived are the ones the data proved; several good ideas were removed because the data disproved them.

How it trades

  • Classifies the day at 9:15. The opening gap against the previous close decides the playbook: flat, doji, gap up, gap down or expiry day. Extreme gap days are skipped entirely.
  • Buys strength or weakness at proven levels. On 15-minute closes through the previous day’s high, low or close it buys a Nifty call or put: ten codified setups, nothing discretionary.
  • Cuts losses fast, lets winners run. A hard stop of at most 60 index points on every trade. Once a minimum 80-point target is touched, a trailing stop follows 18 points behind the best price and rides the trend to its end.
  • Goes home flat. At most three trades a day, an automatic halt after two stop-outs, no new entries after 15:00, and compulsory square-off by 15:25. No overnight positions, ever.

Why the numbers can be trusted

  • Core rules validated on 18 months of data the strategy had never seen, and stayed profitable.
  • Profit and loss computed on actual traded option premiums, not theoretical models.
  • Every trade charged the full broker cost stack, brokerage, STT, exchange charges, GST and stamp duty, plus a one-rupee-per-side limit-order buffer.
  • Ideas that improved paper profits but weakened robustness were rejected and kept on record.

Risk is managed by machine, not mood

  • Hard stop on every trade, enforced in code, with no averaging down.
  • Daily circuit breaker: two stop-outs and the system stands down until tomorrow.
  • Zero overnight exposure, so gaps, global shocks and weekend risk do not apply.
  • Capital sized at four to five times the worst historical drawdown, so the account is built to outlast losing streaks.
  • Every live trade journalled and audited weekly against what the validated model expected.

  2. 15-min closesEnterCall or put bought through the previous day’s proven levels
  3. In tradeManageHard stop, dynamic target, trailing stop, level ratchet

Where it stands

The automated trading server is live on the same production stack that runs RIMA, with hands-free daily login, encrypted credentials and an order pipeline tested end to end against Zerodha. POTHI is trading on paper first, every signal verified against the model. Next comes one lot live for two weeks to confirm real fills match modelled costs, then scaling to the 15-lot production size with weekly audits and pre-agreed drawdown limits. No step is taken until the previous one has proven itself.
